'Tree Guard Bench’, takes the form of a dynamic and multi-functional piece of street furniture which incorporates a unique ‘collapsing and extending’ mechanism.
Its primary functions combine the need to protect urban trees from vandalism, while providing an elegant seating solution.
In addition, Tree Guard Bench performs as a piece of sculpture; making not only an aesthetic statement through the contrast between nature and engineered materials, but also through highlighting the importance of trees in the urban environment.
The wider intention of Bens work is to challenge perceptions of how public seating should look and perform.
Tree Guard Bench embodies the notion that the aesthetic appeal of public space is directly linked with the general well-being of the community that inhabit it.
